Great Thoughts (Two Minutes to Read)

2/2/2013

Someone once said he likes to get up real early before all the great thoughts are taken. I thought about this a few times and then realized how profound it is. I always liked (retired now) to be one of the first ones in the office each morning which was usually around 6:45. I'd get more done before eight o'clock then what seemed like the rest of the day. Usually around 8:30 things would start getting crazy and I got into my role of running Customer Service, Human Resources, IT/IS, and Marketing. I had great managers over these departments but I still had a lot going on to keep things going.

What this means is that before the daily activities kicked in I was in a creative mode with no interruptions. I could actually make plans for the day because if I didn't I'd go whichever way the wind was blowing that day so I might finish the day with a lot of activity but not productivity.

Quite frankly it's the same for all of us. If you're a stay at home dad or mom and you wake up just in time to get your day started and the children's, then you'll be in a rote mode. This means you're not creative your reactive already knowing what needs to be done to get everyone out the door on time using the same techniques every day. It's certainly okay if you want to do this but if you ever complain you can't get a minute to yourself you're wrong.

Now maybe you're not an early bird but if this is the case then steal at least 15 minutes where no one interrupts you including yourself during another time of the day or night. This time shouldn't be spent on your computer or reading a book it should be spent just sitting down and thinking about your life. Keep a notepad with you because a lot of times things will pop into your head that you'll want to follow up on. Don't stress yourself out about what you're thinking about just let things come and go. There are a lot of cool things about doing this and one is that you'll be blown away by how long 15 minutes is when you're not filling it up with activities that in most cases don't matter that much in the scheme of things. Time is one of our most precious resources and everyone has the same amount in their portfolio so to speak. The difference in everyone's life is how they invest it. Our minds are the greatest asset we have yet we rarely tap into its potential. We typically use it to help us get up in the morning, make breakfast, commute to work, do our jobs, eat dinner, watch TV, etc. then the next day is the same. Do you think this is any kind of challenge to our brains?

Open up the gate and let your brain go play. We're keeping an extraordinay race horse in the barn. Eventually it forgets what it was born to do which is run like the wind. You can find 15 minutes in your day to shut off the rest of the world. You should never say you can't get a minute to yourself because it's not true. I'll make a promise to you and that is if you do this it will profoundly change your life. I beg of you...unleash your brain!

It's Already There

2/2/2013

"I don't create music it's already there...I just reveal it." -  Paul Simon.

This reminds me of what God has done; he's already created everything we need and more it's our responsibility to put forth some effort and  reveal it. All great discoveries are just that; for example an amazing scientist who gets a Noble Prize actually discovers something already there; her greatness is that she found a way to solve/uncover God's mystery. In our Christian journey the more things we discover the better we'll be equipped to minister to those around us; all we have to is reveal something already there just waiting to be discovered.

May peace and joy be with you always.
