Immigration Confusion

3/1/2017

I heard a Liberal attack Donald Trump's stance on immigration. This person said that Trump and anyone who thinks like him is morally bankrupt that we have an obligation to allow people into our country and to allow anyone who has crossed illegally to stay in our country because that's what America stands for. I wish I were there because this is what I would've said to him:

Wouldn't it be moral to invite the homeless into your home and feed them? Maybe you'd like to but you don't have the resources to do it because of the limited amount of space in your home or maybe you don't have enough money to feed everyone. Wouldn't it make more sense to only invite the number of homeless into your home that you could afford to help this way you could sustain helping people for years to come? Welcome to our country’s dilemma.

If you had insight into the homeless that you're thinking about bringing into your home, wouldn’t you want to screen out felons because you might be putting your family at risk? Why wouldn’t our country do the same?

What about the rights of Americans to pursue prosperity for themselves and their families yet their wages are being held back because of illegal immigration? Should the rights of the U.S. citizens for the pursuit of their happiness be trumped by illegal immigrants?

Is it okay to have laws and then everyone can pick and choose which ones they'll follow? The fact is, we wouldn't have to pass any new laws regarding immigration if we'd enforce those already on the books which is what Trump wants to do, how can you demonize someone who is following our laws?

I'd have way more than this to debate that particular Liberal about but I'll leave it at this. The bottom line is doing what's best for Americans first can lead to good things for those who want to move here legally but the fact is the reverse isn't true. It's really this simple.

Lincoln's Son

3/1/2017

Robert Todd Lincoln, son of Abraham Lincoln, was the only one of four brothers to survive beyond their teenage years. When Robert was 20, he fell between a moving train and the station platform when a man quickly grabbed Robert and pulled him to safety, saving his life. Robert quickly recognized the good Samaritan as the famous actor Edwin T. Booth. If this name sounds familiar it’s because Edwin’s infamous brother, John Wilkes Booth, assassinated Robert Lincoln’s father one year later.

A couple of other strange things about his life is that he was with President Garfield at a train station when the President was gunned down. He was also with President McKinley when he was killed by an assassin. Feeling like he was bad luck he got out of politics and wouldn't even attend the opening of the Lincoln Memorial in 1922 because President Taft  would be there.

The Frozen Woman

3/1/2017

A police officer in NY was out in frigid conditions when he saw a very old lady sitting in the passenger seat of a car with an oxygen mask on and it looked like she was frozen to death. He broke a window in the vehicle to see if he could save her but he couldn't. Why? Because she was never alive, she was a life-like mannequin. The owner of it worked in the healthcare industry and used the dummy for CPR classes in nursing homes. I never did find out who had to pay for the car window.

The Foreign Policy Wreck

3/1/2017

Any Democrat who thinks Obama has done a good job in the middle-east is delusional. His foreign policy in handling Syria is some of the worst I've seen in my lifetime.

A few years ago Senator McCain and our top military leaders said we should go in and help the Syrian rebels as the timing was good as they would have the hearts and the minds of the people. Obama didn't do it.

Then the military leaders came back around later and said we need to get involved because Assad was using chemical weapons on civilians and rebels and that helping them was in accordance with our humanitarian policy. Obama acted like was livid about what Assad did and on national television stated we have established a red line and that he would feel the wrath of the U.S. if he ever did it again.

Assad didn't believe what Obama said (which made sense), so he kept on killing people which was reported back to Obama who chose to do nothing about it. He went into silent mode and never did come back to tell us why he didn’t do what he said he was going to do during the press conference. Terrible leadership! What message does that send other countries? I certainly wouldn’t want to be an ally of ours if you couldn’t trust that we’d follow through on promises.

Obama is responsible for thousands of lives lost in Syria including children, regardless of what Democrats are saying. I’m just using the same standards they put on President G.W. Bush. Now the rebels aren't just fighting Assad but also Russia as we opened the door to their involvement. Russia pretty much took over and demanded no-fly zones which Obama buckled under. Keep in mind I’m just addressing Syria, don't get me started on other middle-eastern countries like Libya.

France

3/1/2017

I get the opinion that some French people have a chip on their shoulders when it comes to Americans. I'm sure those who live in Normandy still love us though. But I want to remind everyone that we do owe France a tremendous amount of gratitude for the birth of our nation and not just for their military support, but more for their financial investment in the future of our country.

They not only helped fund our war against Britain, they also gave us start-up cash and a line of credit to get our country off the ground. We're in debt around $20 trillion now but the fact is our country started off in a lot of debt. Our Federal government wasn't up and running until around ten years after the war so colonies' obligation to help out financially was more of a give what you can which didn’t go real well.

It was Alexander Hamilton who helped get us on track by creating a tax system and holding the colonies accountable for pitching in to run the Federal government and pay down the debt. Of course this wasn't popular. A lot of colonists naively thought the days of taxation were over; they just didn't get that the real promise made was "taxation WITH representation."

France had anterior motives for helping us as for them it was seen as an investment. A strong and growing American economy meant more trade opportunities for their citizens and more taxing opportunities for the French government as the currency flowed back and forth. Britain wasn't a viable trade partner for them as they had been fighting each other for hundreds of years and there was zero trust to create any type of trade agreement, so France had to find other opportunities for growth.

Even though they did benefit it doesn't take away the fact that a big reason we live in the United States of America is because France believed in capitalism. Take that Bernie Sanders. Viva le France!

Not Keeping Pace

I've realized that my gaining wisdom isn't keeping up with my growing old.

The Tree

3/1/2017

It always gets me when I watch an old TV show or movie that takes place in NYC and it shows the Twin Towers. The site of the Twin Towers is now marked by a memorial and a museum, and will be surrounded by six new skyscrapers.

As they were cleaning up after 9/11 they pulled debris off of an 8 ft. tall pear tree that was damaged and scorched but it appeared to still be alive so they called a local nursery to remove it and see if they could save it. At that point everyone was looking for any signs of life whether animal, human, or in this case, a tree.

The tree survived and they recently planted it at the memorial site along with over 300 other trees. But this tree stands out as it is over 30 feet tall. It has its own name: "The Survivor Tree."

Crazy Over Russia

3/1/2017

Democrats are going crazy over everything Russia. Where was this excitement over Russia's ICBM testing, their invasion of two countries, putting up no fly zones in Syria so we couldn't get Bashar al-Assad out of power, attacks on Syrian rebels who we are supporting, etc.? Obama did nothing, now Democrats and the liberal media are attacking Trump over his response to their aggression.

By the way, one of their reasons for going crazy is that a Russian ship was spotted 30 miles off our coast. What they don't admit is that international law allows them to get as close as 12 miles from our coastline. Many times when I went out to sea and when the water wasn't deep enough to dive our submarine in yet, I'd encounter Russian spy ships taking pictures and shooting videos of us. We do the same thing to them on their coastline. Their spy ships have always been out there and they're not the only country.

Democrats are acting like this is all new stuff when it was happening during Obama's two terms. He didn't do anything and they know it. They're demonizing Trump under false pretenses and dividing our nation which is in my opinion treason. I find this despicable.

Media Watchdogs

3/1/2017

I think the problem a lot of people have is they still hold on to an old concept that the media is a watchdog group. Those days are over. Watch the first ten minutes of any nightly news show and you'll notice they share very little facts but a lot of ideological dialogue. Listen as they inject opinions to Trump's demeanor and intent.

One of the classes journalists take in college is the importance of sticking to the facts the who, what, when, and where. The question of "why" is for opinion pieces that aren't factual news but ideology that people like to read to support their own views of the world. The New York Times is loaded with these opinion pieces that they try sell as factual articles.

The only real watchdog I've seen over this last year is Trump calling out the media for their bias and they're hating every minute of it.

The Keyboard

3/1/2017

Ever wonder why the keyboard is set up the way that it is instead of just being laid out in alphabetical order?

The first manual typewriters were set up in alphabetical order with each character set on the end of a metal bar that struck the paper when each key was pressed but they found a problem. When an operator had learned to type at a fast speed the bars attached to letters that lay close together on the keyboard became entangled.

One way out of the difficulty was to find out which letters were most often used and then place them on the keyboard as far from each other as possible. This had the effect of reducing the chance of tangling the bars and having to fix them before the individual could continue typing. This was how the QWERTY keyboard was born, named after the first six letters on the top line.
