Obama Care

8/16/2016

Aetna is leaving Obama Care in several states including Florida, North Carolina, and Texas because it is too expensive for them to operate. United Health Care is threatening to pull out completely next year. This is happening more and more with states increasing premiums in severe double-digits to try and keep the insurance companies around. What happened to affordable care? Besides all of this the Federal Government (our tax dollars), who wasn't supposed to be sponsoring Obama Care is having to kick in billions of dollars to keep it afloat every year since it started.

The Affordable Care Act isn't working yet Democrats are doing everything they can to spin it like it's been great. It's not been great, it's been a failure and they'd better have a Plan B to transition out of Obama Care because it will happen due to insurance companies pulling out. Although I guess they could take even more of our tax dollars and give it directly to the insurance companies for a "pay to stay" type of program, railroading tax payers as usual. Now that I think about it, I believe this is exactly what they'll do...they'll figure what are taxpayers going to do about it? They'll figure we'll just sit back as usual and scream about being screwed over but not do anything about it. This is how much they respect the people they're supposed to be serving.

Lynard Skynard

8/1/2016

A trip down memory lane. The band Lynard Skynard with such tremendous hits like "Free Bird" and "Sweet Home Alabama" had just released their second album when their band was in a small plane crash (October 20, 1977). The plane ran out of fuel toward the end of the flight and crashed in a swamp in Gillsburg, Mississippi. The pilots attempted to land on a small air strip but the bottom of the plane clipped some trees and the aircraft went down.

Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, vocalist Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray were killed instantly, while the other band members and road crew suffered terrible injuries.

Those who died never got to realize their second album called: "Street Survivors" went gold within a week. What a tragedy but also what a tremendous legacy of extraordinary music they gave us.

Hillary On Abortion

8/1/2016

I watched Hillary Clinton on the television show The View and she was asked about when she thought it was okay for a baby to be aborted. She said in so many words that a woman has the right to choose all the way up until the baby is in the birth canal. She stated that an unborn baby has no

Constitutional Rights so it is okay to abort (a.k.a. kill), even at that late stage.
I find this absolutely disgusting! I believe in a woman’s right to choose and I don’t think most parts in Roe vs. Wade from a Constitutional perspective could or should be overturned but it all boils down to when does life begin? When is it an aborted fetus and when does it become murder? By the way, I have many friends and family members who don’t believe in abortion at all and I greatly respect their opinion.

Hillary believes that even a nine-month old unborn baby can be killed because it has no Constitutional rights. Although difficult, I’d like for you to picture a full-term baby being killed and discarded in a dumpster of an abortion clinic. Does this make you sick? It should. This is what most of the Left believes.

I think the solution is very simple…if a doctor pronounces the time of death of a human based on when their heart stops why don’t we pronounce “life” when a heartbeat begins which is generally 10 weeks? Plus, there are many times when a woman doesn’t even know she’s pregnant for the first four to six weeks. The Left’s push for late-term abortions is horrendous and this is why they want control over the nominations of the Supreme Court Justices so they can accomplish just that.

The bottom line in my opinion is that it’s murder and we need to do something to accurately identify when life begins and put a cap on when an abortion can occur. The way it is now isn’t right. Keep in mind many states will charge someone for double-homicide if they kill a pregnant woman. Apparently they believe killing an unborn child is murder and their process hasn’t been overturned by the Supreme Court.

I beg of you to take the time to let your representatives know how you feel about the matter. It doesn’t take overturning Roe vs. Wade to accomplish the goal of saving lives through placing the “correct” determination on when life begins which would be an amendment to the legislation.

Hillary’s belief that it is okay to kill a full-term baby should make her incompetent to hold the highest office in the land. A vote for Hillary is a vote in support of her ideology. I hope you’ll do everything you can to let your friends and family know about Hillary’s thoughts regarding abortion. Every vote will truly count during this Presidential election and if she gets the chance to appoint Supreme Court Justices our nation will be in huge trouble.

A Little Radio History (Two Minutes to Read)

8/1/2016

There were so many people and different countries involved in the invention of the radio that it’s hard for me to give credit to just one. Basically, the whole premise of using radio waves began around 1864 when a scientist by the name of James Maxwell came up with a theory that someone could transmit and receive information through wireless telegraphy. Kind of funny when you think about it, we have wireless phones and back then they were pursuing going wireless with telegraphs.

At first radio wasn’t really thought of for entertainment purposes it was about more efficient communication. There are around 700 survivors of the Titanic who owe their lives to the early use of radio communication.  Telegraph technology couldn’t be used in a situation like theirs. As a matter of fact, the use of radio communication was a huge technological advancement in both the nautical and military worlds.

Radio technology began being considered for entertainment purposes mostly around 1915. The problem is that companies had to have something worthwhile enough to broadcast that people would be interested in purchasing a radio for their homes. Sports were one of the first big selling points as people were mostly stuck with finding out about how well their ball teams did through reading the newspaper; offering them the ability to experience games live was huge. By the way, the first college football game broadcast was Texas University vs. Mechanical College of Texas in 1920 and the first pro baseball game broadcast was between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies in 1921.

Television wasn’t around and music was big part of family entertainment (record players), so once again radio broadcasters thought it would be effective selling radios by allowing people to hear all kinds of different music which led to the world of Disc Jockeys and broadcast studios where artists could come in and provide their music live for listeners. Isn’t it amazing how many jobs were created because of the invention of radios? Let’s not forget the advertising agencies who also benefited.

Another great success for radio broadcasters came in the shows they offered like
The Shadow (1930) and The Lone Ranger (1933); family entertainment would never be the same. By the way, the historic radio broadcast of War of the Worlds took place in 1938.

Radio changed the world for those back in the early 1900’s. No longer did people have to read newspapers to find out what happened, they could listen live to various broadcasts. Families could actually sit around the radio and spend time together. The problem was the cost which was around $120 per unit ($1,400 in today’s dollars), so most families couldn’t afford a radio when they first came out. Prices did drop dramatically though so they eventually became a regular household item.

The television started gaining ground in the 40’s so radio took a bit of a hit although as we can see it is still a very long lasting technology. I use it daily in my car but can’t remember the last time I listened to the radio in my house. There have been thousands of inventions over the years but I have to give a big shout out to those who created the radio because it has provided so much entertainment for over a century with no end in sight.

Obama's Record

8/1/2016

The speakers during the DNC stand by Obama's economic record stating he's done an outstanding job of running our country and that Hillary will be successful through following Obama’s policies.

We've reached RECORD number highs in: 1) the amount of people on food stamps which is around 46 million. 2) The amount of people on welfare which is up 28% since Obama took office. 3) The number of people out of work. 4) The number of people in poverty which is around 47 million with another 20 million close to the poverty line. 5) The number of African Americans out of work which is now over 16%. 6) The amount of debt which is over $19 trillion and growing rapidly.

Democrats of course don’t mention any of this. Obama’s record both foreign and domestic are deplorable and Democrats have no answers to the points I made above, they just put their heads in the sand as usual and act like none of it is true.

The major problem with all of this is that Clinton won't make necessary changes because she thinks (or says she does), everything is okay at home and abroad because of Obama’s leadership. Things aren't good they're terrible and
major changes need to take place in how we address them. We don't need someone like Hillary trying to protect the legacy of Obama as our country as we know it won't survive.

General Ulysses S. Grant (1822 – 1885) Two Minutes to Read

8/1/2016

General Grant was the 18th President of the United States and worked closely with President Lincoln to win the Civil War. He graduated from West Point in 1843 and immediately began serving during the Mexican American War where he built a reputation for aggressive offensive fighting. He was the type of man who would engage directly in fights not just sit on a horse behind the troops who were fighting. He was also a great military strategist who became the first person to become a four-star general.

Grant kept to himself pretty much but did have a couple of good friends who he kept in touch with throughout his life. He was known as a horse whisperer (a tremendous Cavalryman), and set an equestrian high-jump record that stood for almost 25 years. He was married to his wife (Julia), and they had two children, a boy (Frederick), and a girl (Ellen).  By the way, Frederick and Ellen were the names of Julia’s parents.

He retired from the Army in 1853 but civilian life wasn’t good for him as he struggled from occupation to occupation. He went to work at his father’s tannery for a while then gave it a shot as a farmer but went bankrupt. Although the Civil War was a terrible thing it was exactly what Grant needed so he joined the Union in 1861.

Grant was initially put in charge of armies from Kentucky and Tennessee (the Volunteers), it was with these men that he won the famous Battle of Shiloh which took place in Tennessee and was one of the deadliest battles in U.S. history. Grant's army had 1,513 killed, 6,601 wounded, and 2,830 missing or captured. Anyhow, right off the bat Grant won a huge battle and was gaining notoriety and praise from President Lincoln.

General Grant was also known for bringing in African American slaves to help in the Union war effort. Even though it was the Union Army, fighting alongside blacks wasn’t popular with some Union soldiers. Grant ended up spending his entire military and political career trying to help free slaves and give them various rights.

Grant kept winning at every turn thus gaining him a great reputation and time with President Lincoln who eventually put him in charge of the entire Union Army. Both General Robert E. Lee and General Grant were the famous warriors during the Civil War and Grant got the better of Lee in Richmond, Virginia. Lee’s Army was being decimated so he finally surrendered to Grant in April of 1865.

Historians have hailed Grant's military genius and his strategies and tactics are still featured in history books and studied at various war colleges. The one issue that stuck with Grant though is that he had a drinking problem and didn’t always do things by the books. He got in trouble many times for not following military protocol but because he kept winning anywhere he went it was mostly overlooked.

After the war Grant was put in charge of reconstruction in the South. He worked to get African Americans engaged in politics and they became a part of the Republican Party. I wonder how many African Americans know this as it was the Republican Party who made sure they were freed. Then Grant brought in investors from the North (remember the Carpet Baggers), to help get businesses started and begin trade between the North and South. It was an extremely challenging yet successful endeavor overall and this is why along with being a military hero, that he was elected as President of the United States in 1868 and then re-elected in 1872.

In 1880, Grant was unsuccessful in obtaining a Republican presidential nomination for a third term. He was struggling financially again and dying of throat cancer when he completed his memoirs, which received rave critical reviews and turned into a financial success thus supporting his family after his death. When he died in 1885 at the age of 63, it prompted an outpouring of national unity. Some scholars rank his presidency below average due to economic problems (of course it was in shambles after the Civil War so I don’t agree with most of them), while admirers emphasize his concern for Native Americans and enforcement of civil and voting rights for African Americans.

General Grant wasn’t a perfect man but he certainly had more of a heart for people than most people know and he was absolutely instrumental in bringing the Union back together definitely deserving of his great place in history.
