The First Aviators

12/25/2019

A lot of people think that travelling on an air balloon sounds cool but when given an opportunity decide not to do it out of fear. A lot of people back out when they see the small basket that they'll stand in while rising into the sky. No doubt if anyone has a scare of heights, it’s not the ride to take.

Think about being one of the first to do it. If the balloon went up, would it come down? Where would it land? You wouldn’t want to launch one near the ocean. Would the balloon tear? At this point they didn’t even know there were different atmospheres with different temperatures. The first people to go up over 20,000 feet about froze to death and found out that their faculties were diminished with reduced oxygen. Another lesson learned. Meteorology made huge advancements when scientists began running tests using the balloons. These people were our first aviators and they were as brave as any of the pioneers in the field.

The idea of using hydrogen to make a balloon rise into the sky occurred in the 1700's. Two brothers from France came up with the idea and in 1783, King Louis XVI commissioned the first flight with the idea of using criminals to go up but a couple of nobles petitioned to be the first.  They rose around 100 feet and travelled around five miles. This might not seem like much but think about accomplishing this back in the 1700's; it was a mind-blowing experience for those who took the risk.

The year 1785 in ballooning was very significant in that a balloon made it across the English Channel but unfortunately another crashed into a town and burned down around 100 homes. It was a public relations disaster for the new form of flight and was of course on record as being the first aviation disaster.

France was the first country to use an air balloon in battle, as they used it to observe troop movements during the French Revolutionary War.  Britain flooded the skies with unmanned balloons to obstruct German fighter pilots. Unfortunately, they didn’t work too well at The Battle of Britain as German’s bombers unleashed a fury.

The record height an air balloon has reached occurred in 2005 by a man from India. With special life-saving equipment, he reached an altitude of 69,850 feet which is around twice as high as a passenger jet travels. Now there are huge balloon festivals around the country that are filled with beautiful colors. It’s amazing how close some of them fly to each other but the balloons tend to bump off each other so the baskets and ropes don’t typically become entwined. I’ve got to admit, when I was younger, I’d have no problem going up, but now it doesn’t seem like such a fun idea. 😊

Making A Difference

12/24/2019

God gave/gives some people the ability to influence the world, some do something with it, whether good or bad, while some squander their existence. For most people, we don’t change the world, we attempt to change our world to suit the way we choose to live in it. Once again, some of us do something good or something bad with it, while some squander their existence.

Unfortunately, this realization often hits us at the end of our life's journey. This is our chance. Let’s not complicate things, make the goal easy…go out and be kind to one another. We celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ tomorrow; being kind to our fellow human beings would be an awesome present for him.  Merry Christmas!

Politics As Usual

12/22/2019

I've said it many times before, but common sense and logic are like kryptonite to representatives in the Democratic Party. Here you go:

1) If what they did with voting for impeachment were legitimate, it wouldn't have been a vote along party lines; it never has been before. If Trump were guilty, many Republicans would've voted with Democrats in concern for what their constituents would say if they didn't.

2) We know exactly what Trump said during his phone call because he immediately shared the transcript but for some strange reason, Democrats tried to make it appear it was a danger to our national security. It's so absurd that it's almost laughable if it weren't so serious.

3) If Trump did do what Democrats said and gave Ukraine an ultimatum that they wouldn't receive foreign aid unless they began an investigation into the Biden's, then why in the world didn't they do it? If it were true what Democrats were saying, Ukraine would've began the investigation as soon as the ultimatum left Trump's lips.  In a court of law, jurists would've looked at this point alone and given a non-guilty verdict.

4) Some Democrats have spoken about impeaching Trump from the moment he took office. Instead of spending their time working on the needs of U.S. citizens, they've spent three years trying to come up with something to take him out and somehow send a message that Hillary should've won. They've been so enraged with Trump from the beginning that they threw out common sense and logic and rendered themselves completely useless to their constituents. This is disgustingly sad.

I could go on and on of course, but I'll stop at the above. No telling how long the Senate hearing will last while the state of our union goes on without assistance. The Senate will not vote for impeachment so all this time will have been a waste. By the way, let's say Trump did get impeached for some reason, it doesn't prevent him from running again in 2020 and according to the polls, he'd probably win again because people are so disgusted with politicians. Representatives in the House and Senate have deplorable ratings compared to President Trump, they don't act like it, they act like they're morally superior, but they aren't. They are corrupt, they just don't understand that we all realize it.

I've gone through some scary times in my life and have come to the realization that God believes in me more than I believe in myself. :)

Perfect Children

I was told when I was very young that perfect children are boring to parents so I did what I had to do to prevent that from happening. :)

Home Plate

12/19/2019

In 1996, retired coach John Scolinos, was asked to give a speech to around 4,000 baseball coaches from Little League to the Majors. He was 78 years old, so he slowly walked up to the podium and around his neck was hanging a home plate. He didn’t say anything about it and went on to speak for around 25 minutes.

Then he finally mentioned it. He said I’m sure most of you are wondering why I have this plate around my neck. He asked the crowd how wide the plate was in Little League and some of the crowd yelled out: “Seventeen inches.” Then he asked how wide the plate was in high school and college. Again, they yelled out: “Seventeen inches.” He then asked how wide the plate was in the majors and they called out: “Seventeen inches.” Coach Scolinos asked them what happens to a major league pitcher who can’t get the ball across that 17 inches? He’s cut from the team was their response. He said they were right. They don’t tell the pitcher that they’ll increase the size of the plate so he could throw a strike and keep his job. No, they hold him accountable for results based on the rules of the game.

He then went on to say that our country is widening the plate in basically every important aspect of young people’s lives. The plate of integrity has been widened. The plate of common decency has been widened. The plate of morals has been widened. The plate of good sportsmanship has been widened. Instead of holding young people accountable for hitting the strike zone of 17 inches, the plate is widened daily so they can feel good about themselves and the choices they make in life. Ethical standards 20 years ago have been watered down. It’s no longer shame on me for taking advantage of you, it’s shame on you for getting played.

What are the ethical standards in your home? What are the rules in your home? Do you require your children to hit the strike zone or do you increase it? Do you hold them accountable or let them slide? How wide is your home plate? Morals are morals, age shouldn’t matter. They shouldn’t change over time. The plate is 17 inches, no more, no less. Don’t change the size of the plate.

A Message

Message to our representatives: No one should take credit for giving away that which they don't own.

A Shark's Tale

12/18/2019

In 1799, the American sailing vessel "Nancy," was seized by the British and taken into Port Royal, Jamaica, under suspicion of carrying contraband. Before the Nancy was boarded, her captain had the crew throw the forbidden freight and the ship’s cargo papers into the sea.

At the trial, the captain and officers were about to be acquitted for lack of evidence when the captain of another ship walked into court with the "Nancy’s" original cargo papers. His men discovered them in the stomach of a shark they harpooned. Consequently, the defendants were convicted. Today, these remarkable documents, called: The Shark’s Papers, are on exhibit at a museum in Kingston, Jamaica.

The IG Report

12/18/2019

So here we go again. The IG comes out with a report which clearly shows 17 various violations when it came to the FISA Warrant in the Trump investigation. According to the report, there really shouldn't have been an investigation in the first place if standard protocol were followed. Now even James Comey is admitting they "made mistakes." The thing is, they weren't mistakes. How could all 17 mistakes go against President Trump? Common sense shows this is bias and some of the very people involved demonstrated their bias against Trump through conversations and text messages.

But the worst thing about this is that
the IG said they couldn't say that anyone had the "intent," of doing something wrong. I get so sick and tired of the federal government doing this. In the private sector it doesn't matter if we "meant," to do something wrong; if we commit a crime, we do the time. It's not unlike how the FBI treated Hillary. Yes, she had a secret server. Yes, she sent and received classified information. Yes, she lied in various hearings. She was guilty of several things and some of those had to do with national security. But, the FBI said she didn't "intend," to do anything wrong. How do they know? They interviewed her for a few hours on a Saturday, at her home, without being under oath, and Comey came back with all the things she did wrong but exonerated her for being naïve.

This is why investigators in the private sector aren't allowed to cut people loose who they think didn't mean to commit a crime. There would be chaos. People wouldn't respect the judicial system. Everyone involved with packaging the "fake dossier," and selling it to the FISA court, should be in prison. It's that simple.
