Greyhound began servicing customers in 1914 and they are still the number one carrier to this day. It was started by a 27-year-old, Swede, who lost his job working in the mines in Minnesota. He then tried selling seven-passenger hub mobiles (today's SUVs), but no one was interested.
He decided to buy one himself to get miners to and from town and he charged them $.15 cents a ride. His first time out he earned $2.25 which would be around $68 in today's dollar. By 1918, he took on a partner and they had 18 vehicles and an annual income of $40,000 ($800,000 today). He was very glad he lost his job in the mine.
