Ever think what it might be like to be a homicide detective in south Chicago? First of all, they don’t have the resources to keep up with all the bodies coming in. Then there’s the fact that it’s so difficult to get any eye witnesses to come forward.
Of course some don’t come forward because they’re afraid of being killed for being a snitch but there are other reasons as well. Most of these homicides are tied to drugs in one way or another so certainly drug users who don’t want the drug stream to be cut off aren’t going to say anything. There are those who are making a living off of the drug trade so they’re not going to say anything. Then there’s the fact that the flow of drug money is a huge commerce for some of the housing projects so if the money isn’t flowing then people who provide legitimate products and services will lose their livelihoods. They know the money is tainted but what can they do…they need to make a living. The bottom line is these people too don’t want to get involved with the police.
Pretty much the only people who care about the police finding the killers are the family and friends of the victims but even they know how the game is played so they don’t expect much from the police because they don’t expect much from their community. A very sad situation.
