But other students and faculty accused the bakery of racism and staged protests outside, with Oberlin officials fully endorsing and supporting the protestors’ false narrative. Further, while Oberlin claimed in court the protests were peaceful, some demonstrators entered the bakery and harassed customers, taking pictures of them and making disparaging comments. They also blocked customers from moving down the aisles and slashed the tires of a store employee. What do they call a "peaceful protest"?!
A jury awarded Gibson's Bakery a $44 million verdict, including $33.2 million in punitive damages, against Oberlin College in Ohio. Here's where it gets good. The four insurance companies that Oberlin College uses for civil lawsuits have refused to pay the $44 million dollar settlement the family who owned the bakery was awarded. They've got their reasons for refusing payment, one of them basically being, you can't insure stupidity. The college got behind their students who were breaking the law. This is a very inconvenient truth that should come with true accountability.
