David was mesmerized when he saw a beautiful tree which still bears his name: "The Douglas Fir." But what's even more amazing is that one of the major reasons the Gold Rush exploded in California is that David had sent back to their lab in London, a bunch of plant life. Embedded in the roots of the plants, and unnoticed by David, was specs of gold. A cable was quickly sent and David had to move fast, not on collecting gold, but collecting all the botanicals he could from this particular California region near San Francisco, before the ground was torn to pieces.
David Douglas (1799 – 1834), was only 26 years old in 1825, when he sailed along the west coast of the United States and up the Columbia River. The young botanist from London was on a quest. Since a boy he had been obsessed with plants, and by the age of 21 he was appointed to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Scotland. Now, five years later, he was to examine the plant life of the New World.

Wow, Jill Biden has been around forever yet the media is acting like she's a breath of fresh air. The WSJ had the audacity to question her credentials and now the rest of the media is coming to her defense, but the point is clear...she's not a medical doctor and won't be solving our health crises. It just shows their hand coming to Jill's aid the way they are especially with how horrifically they treated a very good woman...Melania Trump.
Do liberals really care about women? They do if the women are registered Democrats. Do they care about African Americans and Hispanics? Yes, if they are registered Democrats. Interesting. I guess the question is who are they really fighting for? Well, now we know why Rep. Eric Swalwell (D - California), went after Trump so hard. He was just doing China's bidding. What a dirt bag. Lock him up! And now we know why Biden was attacking Trump for going after China so hard on COVID-19, that little something in the Biden's Christmas stockings was gold. We can't trust a single thing the Biden Administration does with China and this is legitimate information and not a Russian hoax.
Biden calls for unity while attacking Trump and his supporters. Wow! Do they not get it or are they really this stupid?
So for years, Democrats like Clinton, Nadler, Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, etc., said Trump was an illegitimate President, yet now they're losing their minds over Trump questioning Biden's legitimacy. Double-standards anyone?!
I think the reason that women dug my dad (70's terminology), :) is that he used Brylcreem in his hair and wore Hai Karate aftershave. Which also reminds me of the time when mom figured out dad was growing a mustache and she chased him around the house and the yard trying to kiss him. You want to do right by your children, let them see plenty of times like these. Thanks.
Is Cuomo a sociopath who has sadistic tendencies toward the elderly? Welcome to Medicare for All. If you're a senior and you think you'll have access to tests you've had under private healthcare, you're going to be very disappointed. Your new government, who knows what's best for you and others, sees the big picture and they know that if you're a senior, you're taxing the system not the other way around. Socialized medicine can't survive without a productive tax base. They need us making money and spending money. Interesting that socialism actually can't exist without capitalism keeping it afloat.
Governor Cuomo needs to be held accountable for his horrific decisions that cost so many elderly their lives. Why The New York Times, doesn't even care about its own citizens, is amazing. They'd rather protect a Democratic governor than the people he's supposed to be working for; it's both strange and sad. One time I was hanging out at Starbuck's with a friend, Henry. Henry will say anything to anyone so I live vicariously through him. Anyhow, a beautiful young woman walked up to us in line and she was wearing a blouse that very much showed off her bosom. I tried to look away. Putting on sunglasses wouldn't have worked in there. So Henry, being the guy he is, leaned over and asked her if they were real to which she immediately replied: "Does it matter?" To which I didn't reply, no, it does not. :)
I usually post my own material but came across this story and had to share. I'll never watch the movie: "It's a Wonderful Life," the same again.
For all the fans of “It’s A Wonderful Life” and Jimmy Stewart. Just months after winning his 1941 Academy Award for best actor in “The Philadelphia Story,” Jimmy Stewart, one of the best-known actors of the day, left Hollywood and joined the US Army. He was the first big-name movie star to enlist in World War II. An accomplished private pilot, the 33-year-old Hollywood icon became a US Army Air Force aviator, earning his 2nd Lieutenant commission in early 1942. With his celebrity status and huge popularity with the American public, he was assigned to starring in recruiting films, attending rallies, and training younger pilots. Stewart, however, wasn’t satisfied. He wanted to fly combat missions in Europe, not spend time in a stateside training command. By 1944, frustrated and feeling the war was passing him by, he asked his commanding officer to transfer him to a unit deploying to Europe. His request was reluctantly granted. Stewart, now a Captain, was sent to England, where he spent the next 18 months flying B-24 Liberator bombers over Germany. Throughout his time overseas, the US Army Air Corps' top brass had tried to keep the popular movie star from flying over enemy territory. But Stewart would hear nothing of it. Determined to lead by example, he bucked the system, assigning himself to every combat mission he could. By the end of the war he was one of the most respected and decorated pilots in his unit. But his wartime service came at a high personal price. In the final months of WWII he was grounded for being “flak happy,” today called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). When he returned to the US in August 1945, Stewart was a changed man. He had lost so much weight that he looked sickly. He rarely slept, and when he did he had nightmares of planes exploding and men falling through the air screaming (in one mission alone his unit had lost 13 planes and 130 men, most of whom he knew personally). He was depressed, couldn’t focus, and refused to talk to anyone about his war experiences. His acting career was all but over. As one of Stewart's biographers put it, "Every decision he made [during the war] was going to preserve life or cost lives. He took back to Hollywood all the stress that he had built up.” In 1946 he got his break. He took the role of George Bailey, the suicidal father in “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The rest is history. Actors and crew of the set realized that in many of the disturbing scenes of George Bailey unraveling in front of his family, Stewart wasn’t acting. His PTSD was being captured on filmed for potentially millions to see. But despite Stewart's inner turmoil, making the movie was therapeutic for the combat veteran. He would go on to become one of the most accomplished and loved actors in American history. This holiday season, as many of us watch the classic Christmas film, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” it’s also a fitting time to remember the sacrifices of Jimmy Stewart and all the men who gave up so much to serve their country during wartime. We will always remember you! Postscript: While fighting in Europe, Stewart's Oscar statue was proudly displayed in his father’s Pennsylvania hardware store. Throughout his life, the beloved actor always said his father, a World War I veteran, was the person who had made the biggest impact on him. Jimmy Stewart was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1985 and died in 1997 at the age of 89. -- Ned Forney, Writer, Saluting America's Veterans Every once in a while I mention this and that is I have several posts which have to do with politics because of everything that is happening with the elections and some of it you certainly might not agree with, but I hope you'll notice that I try to give nothing but the truth as I know it from the most independent of sources possible. But, not everyone is into politics. It's definitely not uplifting like some of my articles below. So if you aren't into politics, please scroll through the posts because there's something for everyone regardless of what you might be into. Thanks!
My gosh, did Clinton's, Harris' and Obama's people come in and tell Biden who he had to bring into his cabinet? It's nuts. I thought he was going to be pushing unity yet he hires Xavier Becerra (California's Attorney General), to run HHS; and this pick came out of nowhere. If he has any solid experience at all, it is with pushing Obama Care through false information and this is backed up through one of the architects of the Plan, M.I.T.'s Jonathon Gruber. You remember, the man who the Obama Administration praised before acting like he had nothing to do with Obama Care because of what he was sharing about the Administration misleading the American people; not because of something devious, but in his words, because the Obama Administration thought Americans weren't smart enough to know what was good for them so they needed to make it happen no matter what it took. I guess Democrats don't care when one of their own lies to them. It certainly isn't newsworthy unless they can catch a Republican in a lie or scandal. Becerra knew there were no guarantees that someone could keep their doctors because they weren't sure how long private insurance companies would hang in there with lower premiums or how long the federal government could afford subsidizing the insurance companies' profits. They knew by law that the U.S. couldn't force someone to buy health insurance. They could tax the dickens out of them and use the money where they want, but they sure were hiding this from the rest of us. And as we saw across many parts of our country, insurance companies bailed and no one can even access Obama Care even if they wanted to. This isn't a failure by Republicans, it is a case of Republicans knowing the program faced implosion. People were dropping off Obama Care in the millions while Obama was President; it had nothing to do with Republicans. Just another lie by the Democratic Party. Now with Becerra on the inside, the goal will be Medicare for All, legal citizens or not. Kamala now has her man on the inside. What's worse is Becerra is a workhorse for Planned Parenthood. He even used his office as leverage in an attempt to get some large California churches to openly advertise their support of the organization with the threat being, do we need to go over your books to see if you qualify for non-profit? It didn't work but he didn't get in trouble for trying it; of course we're talking California so what should we expect but horrific double-standards which goes against the U.S. Constitution? He has the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals out of San Francisco, covering his back. This means that even if someone is being hurt by actions of the State government, he or she would need a lot of money to push the case through because not only will it have to make its way to California's Supreme Court because the lower courts are liberal, then the 9th Circuit will uphold the previous liberal rulings and the plaintiffs would need even more money to push it up to the U.S. Supreme Court. Think of how many viable cases are dropped because conservatives don't have the money to seek legal remedy. California is a dictatorship to those with conservative mindsets. There is no two-party system to ensure the best and more balanced, ideas are implemented. The sad thing is, so many of their own constituents don't understand this. Every day I realize more and more that Biden morphed into a puppet for the Democratic Party. They (including the media), originally tried to push the old, white man, who was part of the establishment, away, but he kept coming because the activists in the Party didn't realize that everyone hadn't gone as far down the Left path as they had. They regrouped and knew they had to get their claws in him. Then the next thing we know, we're hearing radical ideas out of Biden that neither he nor Obama ever supported in the past. I'm talking complete 180's like The Green New Deal, Reparations, Medicare for illegal immigrants, etc. Biden isn't telling us what he truly thinks about policies anymore; the thinking is now being done for him. And quite frankly, many Democrats would be just fine with Biden not being able to finish his term so that Kamala Harris can come in with the agenda that the far left wanted from the beginning which might as well be the platform for a Socialists Party. You've got to hand it to them, they're a committed bunch of whackos. :) |
