Gun Control

8/8/2019

I already wrote a foundation article for gun control, which is a couple articles below this one, that gives this post some context. The bottom line is I believe there are some measures that could be passed that would provide some protection, but the problem is that it would make little difference to reducing the number of gun related murders.

There are over 300 million privately owned guns in the U.S., so it would be like cavemen outlawing the use of stones to kill people. Stones were everywhere, if they wanted to kill someone, they could. Believing that telling someone who wants to kill other people that he needs to abide by the laws because certain guns are banned/outlawed is extremely naïve and political.

For thousands of years, people have committed horrific crimes; this hasn’t changed. Murder weapons changed such as using rocks, clubs, arrows, guns, etc., but the people involved are relatively the same in their mental state. Evil does exist. Some people are just bad seeds no matter how good the environment they grew up in. The problem is that so many people are looking at this issue rationally when we’re dealing with an irrational problem that we can’t even conceive in our minds. Could you imagine plotting to kill and then killing dozens of people, or even one person for that matter? Our minds can’t go there.

Throughout the history of mankind, weapons have always been available and the people who used these weapons to murder people, have never been society’s norm. Over the last few years, only .00009% of our society committed mass murder. These people are exceptions and not a common place problem like Democrats are making some people believe. By the way, the rifles they’re going after are four times less likely to lead to murder than knives. Why not ban sharp knives over a certain length? It’s a ridiculous thought, but this is the mentality that we’re dealing with when it comes to some Democrats.

Most murders are committed by people who use unregistered guns. Why in the world would someone register a gun then commit murder with it? The bottom line is that the registration process isn’t as impactful as we might think especially when it comes to preventing mass killings. Although Democrats are avoiding the empirical data, the fact is that their recommended changes wouldn’t have done anything for almost any of the mass murders that have taken place. A little something they try to hide because it doesn't bring in money.

Chicago has some of the most stringent gun laws in the country yet their murder rates are horrendous. They experience Code Black in their emergency rooms on numerous occassions because they have too many shooting victims to process. The people doing the killing didn't register their weapons so what in the world would even more gun regulations do to stop their problem, nothing. This is the reality of the situation we're up against.

There’s a black market for guns including selling them on street corners so if anyone wants a gun, they can get one. Not that changing the laws regarding gun permits wouldn’t help, but trying to distill fear into everyone that the changes need to be made immediately or there will be more killings, is absurd.

The Federal Government has no authority according to the 2nd Amendment, to remove automatic weapons from registered gun owners, so this idea by far-left liberals, isn’t going to happen. They know this yet are lying about it.

Out of all the gun related murders, around 94% are committed using handguns so why the outrage over certain rifles? I’m not saying there’s no need for adjusting legislation to clearly define what is and what isn’t a legal weapon, I’m just saying that it’s mostly smoke and mirrors by politicians because they know the data. They know the limited impact they’ll have in saving lives through legislative changes. Until they figure out a way to outlaw sociopaths, they won’t make a dent in the problem.

Not that some politicians aren’t trying to go after people with mental illness. One of their recommendations is to have a database that tracks people with mental illness so it would be part of the background check. Could you even imagine a federally mandated system that requires all psychiatrists to provide their patient lists? It’s yet another absolutely crazy idea they throw out knowing it will never come to fruition. There are millions of people with mental illness in our country and if they knew their name would be entered into a database, they wouldn’t solicit help, which means more murders not less. What’s happened to common sense?

Many more issues but I’ll leave it at the above. There are no easy, legal, ways to reduce the type of carnage we’ve seen recently. Some of what Democrats are throwing out are some of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard. I know that many of their hearts are in the right place, but those with political aspirations, like those running for President, are willing to lie about the problem and how to fix it, in order to fire up their base and bring in more donations. It’s pretty sickening.
