Here's the latest crazy thing they're attempting to push through their state. There's legislation being viewed which would require any company with over 500 employees to have a four-day work week. I'm not talking about four days of working 10-hour days, I'm saying they're going to drop what a work week is for these companies to 32 hours meaning overtime pay begins then, and not after 40 hours. Can you say, even higher prices for goods and services? More inflation?
Then think about how it takes away these companies' competitiveness as companies who don't have 32-hour work weeks would be much more productive at much lower costs. They'd be tying the big companies' hands behind their backs through using double standards in various industries. The bottom line is that overnight, salary expenses for these companies, which are generally the highest cost factor in running most businesses, would jump at least 20% per employee than what smaller companies would have to pay. I'm all for small businesses but if something isn't right, it isn't right, period.
If democrats truly don't understand (which I believe they do), that these large companies are providing a large number of jobs, is scary. They aren't our enemies they're our allies in achieving economic prosperity. Their charitable work is significant.
It's small companies that actually control our destinies. So, would you rather work at a small company for 40 hours a week, and then some overtime pay, or would you rather work a 32-hour week for the same amount of money and then get overtime pay? Do you see how absolutely ridiculous this is. It's insane but so are many of the citizens of the state of California. Thus why a coalition of states needs to give California the boot.
It's the usual story of politics over country because democrats know the truth regarding the benefits of all companies both big and small. They also know that it's easy to get support from people who believe you're going after the big guys who must be taking advantage of us in some way or another. Telling a significant number of workers that they're going to cut their workweek down to 32 hours, will of course gain them support from those who only think short-term.
The good news, if they're forced to follow the U.S. Constitution, is that I don't believe what democrats are proposing would be legal. It would create among many terrible things, unfair trade practices. Strategically handicapping large companies for the benefit of smaller ones. This isn't capitalism which makes since in that California is a socialist's state.
