He was filled with excitement when he finally returned to Hawaii but realized when they docked the ship that the Hawaiian’s didn’t appear happy to see him. He quickly realized that they had somehow figured out that he wasn’t a god so they took him away and killed and mutilated him. He would’ve been way better off that first trip letting them know he wasn’t a god but he took advantage of the situation and paid for it dearly.
What a terrible way for one of the greatest explorers and sea captains to die. There were hundreds of times during previous journeys where his entire crew was shocked that they survived but it was this one incident on Hawaii that took their captain out.
I guess the moral to this story is never act like you’re a god because it could come back to haunt you. :)
