Like it or not, Chauvin deserves a fair trial. His defense is that: 1) He had absolutely no desire to go and murder anyone, he believed he was doing his job. 2) That his knee compression wasn't the primary cause of Floyd's death. Whether it is or not, that's up to the jury. But his defense has every right to point out Floyd's lifestyle. Not doing so because he's black, is reverse racism. Whether he used drugs goes directly to what might have caused his death so the defense had to go there or risk potentially being disbarred and Chauvin would most certainly get an appeal for ineffective counsel.
People are amazing. They yell and scream about justice, yet that's the last thing they really want. They want revenge regardless of the truth about what happened. The justice they want is social justice for their perceived victimhood.
I can't say whether he's guilty or innocent, as I don't have all the facts, but at the end of the day I hope he gets a fair trial because this could impact all of our lives in the future.
