I've always been confused about this issue and no one I've asked has an answer either. President Obama is bi-racial, his mother was white and his father was black. It was his white side of the family who took care of him for all those years yet his book was about a father he knew little about. Somewhere along the way he "decided" he was black regardless of genetics.
Why did he choose to classify himself as black? I think this is an easy answer because of the benefits he received for being black. How did he get into Harvard? How did he get into prep schools when his family was middle class?
The question is: "Is he the first black President?" I don't think saying you're black qualifies someone as the first black president. With the terrible job he's done of not keeping promises made in 2008 and his deplored foreign policy, if I were black I'd disown him and support the next real African American presidential candidate. They deserve a better role model.
