The first recorded card game on American soil was when Christopher Columbus visited here back in the 1400's. Not having actual playing cards, he and his men drew four objects on leaves to create a deck. Pretty much not having any form of entertainment beyond songs and stories, you can imagine how quickly the concept of playing cards or leaves, took off. Amazing to think that the 3c's of checkers, chess, and cards, have forever been popular.
