1) Almost all murders are committed via handguns not automatic or semi-automatic weapons. The FBI came out and said that it's much more likely that someone would be killed by getting beaten to death or stabbed than killed with an assault rifle (automatic weapon). So why is their focus on assault rifles. If someone were smart and prioritized how we could reduce murder, they certainly wouldn't start with the area that has less of an impact than so many others.
2) Almost all murders are committed by someone the victim knew (many times drug related). Random violence of almost any type, is rare. I've never heard a Democrat admit the above. Once again, why is this? Why they're infatuation with rifles? The answer is politics.
3) Issues related to background checks are a hard sell for Democrats since most murderers don't use registered weapons. It doesn't matter how strict background checks are, if someone wants to commit mass murder...he will. I'm not saying we should abort all background checks, I'm just saying we need to be realistic about the potential outcome and not mislead taxpayers about it for political gain.
4) Why wouldn't the same rationale being used by Democrats regarding gun control, not also apply to knives. People use them to commit murder. Maybe something easy like no blade longer than 6" can be sold. It doesn't matter what the background checks might become, the person who wants to commit murder will go to other places to get his hands on a knife. This is the way it works. Over 2,000 years of insight makes it very clear that if someone wants to kill, they’ll find a way to do it and it won’t include purchasing a registered weapon.
Of course, I have way more than the above, but the bottom line is that it's a tough topic to address. There are some things I doubt will get resolved because it would require an Amendment to the Constitution. One thing is for sure, if I hear another Democrat say the NRA and Republicans in general have blood on their hands, I'm going to lose it.
