Instead of pursuing music he got a business degree from Georgia Southern University. When he graduated, his parents talked him into pursuing his dreams versus getting in the business world, so they helped him move to Nashville.
He didn't start off gaining success with his singing, instead other country artists sang songs he wrote. He finally got the opportunity to showcase his talents at Capitol Nashville Records and they signed him in 2007, and immediately got him in the recording studio. He's had 14 number one hits and several platinum selling albums. He's also won numerous country music awards.
I like that he's a true country boy, he doesn't just sing country music. When he's home from touring he can often be found with a fishing pole or a hunting rifle (or bow). He's also a very good family man. He and his wife have two sons of their own and he adopted his sister's two children, a boy and a girl who are now in college. Tragically, his only other sibling (his sister Kelly), died at home from an unknown cause, possibly an aneurism in 2007, then her husband Ben, died in 2014 and that's when Luke and his wife Caroline adopted his niece and nephew.
I got the idea to write this post because Maggie's in the kitchen singing one of Luke's songs, "Drink a Beer." :)
