Senator Cruz is one of the most brilliant prosecutors I've seen. I think Trey Gowdy has been our best. There's no doubt that witnesses who have liberal ideology get it handed to them when Cruz starts asking questions. He's scary because he has his facts straight and he immediately jumps into the heart of the matter.
The above two people clashed yesterday, and Cruz made Durbin look like the idiot he is. Cruz started asking Judge Jackson about why she isn't hard on child pornographers and just when he began to go over the specifics of what she did with one of the most disgusting cases, Durbin told Cruz his time was up, and he tried to pivot over to one of his people to take their turn asking questions. Here's the exchange:
Cruz looked at Durbin and said: "I know you want to interrupt. I know you don’t like this line of questioning," “I just want you to play by the rules,” Durbin said. Then Cruz replied with: “I know you like to interrupt, but you’ve consumed a substantial amount of my time through your interruptions. I’m going to ask my questions and you can, if you want to testify, you’re welcome to.” (I found this comment hilarious).
Cruz ignored Durbin and kept going and was able to ask her why, if she thinks child pornography is a bad thing, that she gave these men much lighter sentences than what the prosecutors were asking. I had to roll back the tape several times because I thought maybe I missed her rationale, but in the end, I realized she wasn't answering the questions directly. She kept going off on tangents attempting to run out the clock, which Cruz accurately pointed out.
Between Durbin's interruptions and Jackson's filibustering, Cruz was getting ripped off of his time for questioning which is why he ended up stopping when he was ready to stop. I've got to say that now that I've seen Cruz in action in so many of these committees, I see him as a tremendous leader who has an enormous amount of integrity.
