I’m surprised but over the course of all wars we’ve been a part of including the Revolutionary War, we’ve lost around one million men and women. I say surprised because I thought it would be a lot more. Another number interesting to me is that in all wars except against Britain, the U.S. has suffered less than 1% of total casualties. I think this is amazing and goes to show we at least have been a military power with fantastic strategies and tactics.
The main reason I write this is to get everyone to think about something very important and that is the one million men and women who have died for us left behind severe collateral damage. They were sons, daughters, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, spouses, cousins, etc. All the people who were part of the veteran’s life took a significant hit in losing their loved one; they will suffer in one way or another for the rest of their lives.
So when you see we’ve lost some of our men and women in the call of duty I hope you’ll remember what I wrote and say a prayer for those family members who are mostly unrecognized yet will forever have huge holes in their hearts.
