Mr. Blue Sky (One Minute to Read)

3/22/2015

I’m a huge music enthusiast with tastes that are broad but am more inclined to 70’s rock like Free Bird or Sweet Home Alabama. One of the greatest songs ever written from every aspect due to its diversity in voice and music is Mr. Blue Sky by the Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O.). They were truly an orchestra that could rock. They’re a British band who produced eleven albums between 1971 and 1986.

If you want to experience a special moment please go to You Tube and listen to the song at least one more time without interruption. You’ll notice sounds that were 30 years ahead of its time in using synthesizers among other technology. But more importantly, you’ll hear an amazing choir and one of the great orchestrated pieces ever written at the end of the song. Amazing considering it hit the rock charts.

I don’t like to beg, but I ask that if you really want a special moment, please listen to this song and just let me know if I’ve wasted your time. My guess is that after listening to it again you’ll be reminded that it’s one of your favorites of all time.

By the way the guy who wrote it was a member of the band and he stayed in a chalet in the Alps trying to get inspiration for their next album. It rained for two weeks straight, he was getting depressed and hadn’t accomplished anything. Then one morning he woke up and the sun was coming up over the mountains. Thus the inspiration for Mr. Blue Sky but after finishing it he completed their entire album of songs in just two weeks. “Hey there Mr. Blue it’s so good to be with you, look around at what you do…” In the end it was an orchestrated piece that even Mozart would’ve been proud of.
