In 1972, NASA launched Pioneer 10 which was supposed to provide us with data from space for two years instead it kept providing data and pictures for more than thirty years.
It was the first spacecraft NASA used where they changed the course it was on by using the gravity of one of the planets and it was the first to give us pictures from Jupiter.
Even though it stopped sending signals it’s still on a mission as it flies about 28,000 miles per hour into outer space because attached to it is a nice message from Earth should it encounter any extraterrestrial lifeforms that includes where we're located. I've seen a few movies where this has come back to haunt us as aliens stopped by to say hello and they weren't real friendly. But aren't NASA scientists amazing?!
