Pulling Out of Syria

1/1/2019

I don't know if pulling troops out of Syria is a good thing because I'm not close enough to it. My personal philosophy is partly as an isolationist as I don't want to try and solve the world's problems. We tend to get involved in things that in the end don't matter as much as other problems we have on U.S. soil. Our federal government doesn't do a good job of telling us what a victory looks like. We stopped Germany's land grabbing in WWI and WWII. We stopped communism from spreading during the Korean War. We went to Vietnam to stop communism. Although we had to leave, Vietnam is in great shape now. In all those wars, we knew what victory would look like.

The bottom line is more people have died in South Chicago alone just in the last two years than we've lost in the middle-east since 9/11. We have vets who need better physical and mental healthcare. We have illegal immigrants who create a drain on our economy (i.e. legal system, prison system, social assistance, etc.), that we could address and save billions of dollars a year. Some of these illegal immigrants are involved in gangs and who knows how many thousands of people they've killed over the years; mostly each other.

I'm not saying I'm right about backing off our support in some of the middle-eastern countries but looking at what's closer to home, I'd say we need a lot of support here that isn't being met. Trump made a campaign promise that he wouldn't waste money if we're not getting enough in return, so I'm not shocked at him pulling out but only time will tell if it's the right decision. Democrats act like it's the end of the world although most of them wanted to pull out but now that Trump has done it, they're against it. But the fact is, what Trump has done isn't the end of the world. If we need to go back in, we can quickly get the 2,000 troops reinserted; it's how the military rolls. Of course, neither Democrats or the mainstream media admit this fact and instead make it yet another “the sky is falling” event.
