I’m addressing this issue since I’ve heard it come up a few times over the last month from Black Lives Matter activists. How exactly could we decide who will pay reparations? Millions of “white people” who live in the U.S. came from other countries and had nothing at all to do with slavery and only around 5% of current U.S. citizens’ families can be traced back to owning slaves.
Millions of African Americans have come to the U.S. long after slavery so their families were never affected; why would they be due reparations? Add to all of these the fact that some of the slave owners were actually black. How will that work? Do we trace back 150 years to identify black slave owners and make sure that no one in their line of succession receives reparations?
Like many topics coming from the Left, the idea of reparations is absolutely ridiculous. I feel sorry for African Americans who are hanging on to this hope because members of the Democrat Party keep this particular candle lit in order to get their votes.
