I admit it makes me mad that for around eight years Republican candidates used the “Repeal and Replace” mantra to help get them elected then when they finally had a chance to deliver on their promise, they didn’t actually have a plan that they already agreed on to where they could immediately put it on the floor for a vote. All those years they had to write legislation and we find out they were mostly behind closed doors discussing how they could use Obama Care to further their own political careers.
I know my Republican representatives have spent the last several years talking about how Obama Care was hurting our country but I never heard them provide a comprehensive plan to replace it instead just a bunch of talk about opening up competition between states; I promise you this won’t help solve the major problems with Obama Care. As for me, unless an insurance plan will pay for itself, I don’t want it because we’re already bankrupt and need to cut the Federal Budget not increase our costs.
What I find even worse than this is that even though Democrats knew Obama Care was failing because of insurance carriers dropping out and premiums skyrocketing, they’re trying to pin the failing on Republicans because they haven’t come up with new legislation. Think about this, why is it the Republicans fault that Obama Care is crashing and burning? Democrats knew there were problems with it yet didn’t write legislation to help fix it. Why? In order to offer solutions, which were desperately needed, they’d have to admit to the problems which for political reasons they weren’t willing to do. Instead of doing what was right for Americans, they chose to play politics.
Yet again tonight, I heard David Muir (ABC Nightly News) talking about millions of people losing their health coverage and he blamed the Republicans for not coming up with a new plan but he didn’t mention that the only reason there’s a problem is that Obama Care is failing. Why didn’t he mention there are some sections of the country where there are no insurance carriers in Obama Care and many places where there’s only one carrier so there’s no shopping around for better prices like Obama promised.
The bottom line is almost all the media coverage is negative regarding the issue of healthcare as they constantly attack the Republican Party yet Republicans didn’t create the problems. This is yet another example of their fake news. They choose to draw their readers and viewers attention towards the Republican Party and not tell the truth about why we’re here in the first place. They absolutely refuse to cover negative stories about the Democrat Party and like I mentioned before, what the media doesn’t cover is just as telling as what they do cover. I find it shocking that the mainstream media refuses to admit that their reporting is biased when there are examples of it on a daily basis.
My greatest problem with Obama Care is actually the costs and what consumers and taxpayers are getting for it. The Obama Administration buried us in debt something the mainstream media didn’t talk about and Obama Care was one of the major contributors towards it. How could Obama Care be called successful when it was a financial disaster that couldn’t sustain itself? Try to get a Democrat to explain this one to you.
Obama Care became yet another one of the legislative cans that Democrats kicked down the road instead of admitting its vulnerabilities and applying necessary fixes. I consider the massive amount of debt we’re going to leave future generations to be immoral; surely were better than this. It doesn’t matter if it’s the current Obama Care program, a revised one, or a new insurance plan altogether, if it can’t pay for itself it should never be passed.
I’ll wrap up with a little story about Jimmy Kimmel and his hard politicking during his late night show. Many of the late night comics are contributing more and more to the direction of politics instead of sticking to being funny; hopefully their ratings will go down and they’ll get the message that people are watching the show to be entertained. I get enough politics from a wide variety of sources so I watch late night shows to get away from it.
Kimmel jumped into the healthcare issue because his son was diagnosed with a heart condition when he was an infant and the hospital performed the necessary surgery and it went great. Kimmel talked about the traumatic event then threw in (in so many words), that children would die if the Republicans plan went through which is a lie. Some Democrats were complaining that they couldn’t read the latest version of the healthcare bill yet somehow Kimmel got his hands on it? I don’t think so.
Of course the mainstream media is jumping on board with Kimmel as if he were a viable source for creating effective healthcare legislation. Some of the Democrats are even calling for any proposed legislation to go through the “Kimmel Test” which disgusts me. Kimmel wants all insurance policies in whatever new Federal healthcare plan goes into place, to not be capped, meaning an insurance company would be liable to pay an endless amount of money for healthcare claims.
What individual or company would expose itself like this? Having had to get money for a start-up company I can promise you I would’ve never gotten the loan if the lenders saw that I was vulnerable to going under at any point because I couldn’t manage the costs and risks. They would’ve never supported me if I had uncontrollable variables that were as significant as no caps.
There’s one option for insurance companies who want to survive this environment of non-cap coverage and that is for them to jack up their rates substantially to cover the losses. This is why premiums take such drastic leaps sometimes because the insurance carriers go over their previous year’s numbers and based on what they need profit wise they adjust to try and make it up the next year. For example if a carrier wants to make an 8% profit margin and they only break even, people should expect at least a 16% increase on premiums the next year as the company tries to get back on track.
Obama Care premiums went up over 100% in Arizona last year and they provided their records to prove why they needed the large increase and their reasons were legitimate. By the way, the Federal Government couldn’t stop them from increasing their rates anyway because regardless of the messaging from the Obama Administration, the insurance companies owned them. Democrats needed Obama Care to work so they were the ones wining and dining the large insurance providers (not the other way around), to make sure and get them to stay in the fold and not cut bait and run.
As many of the large carriers dropped out, Obama Administration officials began kissing up to any insurance carrier they could to at least have plan options. Deals were being cut to ensure profitability; meaning if an insurance carrier needed to make an 8% net profit margin, the Federal Government would become a financial insurance company to them and make sure they hit their profit goals through using our tax dollars.
Did the mainstream media cover this behind closed door activities of the Obama Administration trying to cut deals with insurance companies using taxpayer money? No, because Republicans weren’t the guilty party doing it. Everyone in D.C. knew what the Obama Administration was doing to get Obama Care to work yet the media refused to shine a light on their nefarious practices. If the Trump Administration did the same thing the mainstream media would’ve attempted to bury them for fraudulent activities. The story would lead the nightly news and be discussed at least 20 times daily on CNN and MSNBC; yet another double standard by liberals.
What I find very interesting is how many insurance companies turned down deals with the Federal Government. Think about it, some of these carriers were given a guarantee about hitting their profit margins because taxpayers would subsidize any losses yet they refused the offer. Why is this? I wonder if it boils down to so many companies not trusting doing business with the Federal government. Being that roughly 87% of Americans don’t trust them, I’d say it’s a possibility.
These insurance companies certainly know that promises made are not promises kept in D.C. and if the Federal Government doesn’t live up to their side of the bargain, there’s nothing these private sector companies can do about it but do what they’re doing now, and that is to cut their losses and quit doing business with politicians. Most are choosing to bail out now verses being deeper in a hole later.
What Kimmel is talking about with having no medical caps, wouldn’t work in the private sector yet once again liberals like him think surely our great Federal and State governments could make it work effectively. My thought process is if a Federal healthcare program needs subsidies to survive, then it should never be given life in the first place. Like I mentioned earlier, when you’re $20 trillion in debt you have no more money to spend.
Lastly, I find it appalling that Democrats are attacking Republicans about not seeing the revised healthcare plan when they’re the ones who crammed through Obama Care. I guess they hope everyone forgot that Nancy Pelosi told Republicans that they should pass the Affordable Care Act before they read it. They have no shame.
