Plus, oil companies (and OPEC), always take advantage of increased consumption claiming it’s a supply and demand issue. They could always beef up gasoline production before the season but it’s all about money. We also have the problem that many of the countries we're getting oil from are members of OPEC which jacks up prices on a whim especially if there isn't enough competition such as Venezuela going out of the picture.
All we can do is hang on and make good decisions about things like running errands. Maybe be more strategic about whether we really need to run out and get something. There are also a few apps like "Gas Buddy" and "Gas Guru" that can help as they have prices for most gas stations. I for one wait until I get to South Carolina to fill up when travelling because their taxes on gas are much lower than in North Carolina. Then there's always giving up our gas guzzlers which isn't going to happen in my house because Maggie loves here Ford Explorer!
Anyhow, as it stands now, research shows that we will all be spending about $200 more on gas this summer when compared to last year. Yikes!
