One of many amazing things about Staubach is that he volunteered to serve in Vietnam as they didn't assign him there. What a brave man! At the age of 27 (when most NFL players stop playing), he showed up at the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp and after sitting out one season, took over as the starting quarterback. He was worth the wait as he led the team to five Super Bowls and they won two of them.
He was one of just a few quarterbacks to ever win the Heisman and become a Super Bowl MVP. After 11 years in the NFL, he became a highly successful business owner and is known to be a man of extraordinary integrity. Roger Staubach has been married since 1965 (51 years), to his sweetheart from grade school, Marianne. They have one son, four daughters, 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He’ll always be a hero to me.
