As a percentage of items invented over the years a substantial amount are no longer in use but the rubber band is certainly an exception. We take it for granted now but can you imagine the excitement when it was first produced in London in 1845? There were no cost effective ways to bind documents and other items before this time. Most people would use cloth to bind items together which was extremely expensive.
It took 54 more years for the paper clip to be invented in Waterbury, Connecticut which considering its simplicity was still marveled upon and gave people yet another option to bind documents.
Both simple inventions but yet amazing since after all these years we’re still using them in our daily lives. Many inventions have come and gone but these two items are still making a positive difference. We’ve got to respect that.
