First of all, who would get the reparations? Would African Americans receive money if their ancestors worked for the around 10,000 African Americans who owned slaves? What about the fact that only around 5% of white families have ancestors who owned slaves? Remember, we’re a nation of immigrants as the Left likes to say so a majority of families can’t trace their way back that far into U.S. history.
Keep in mind, only a small percentage of people owned slaves because most whites were laborers on small family farms so they couldn’t afford nor needed slaves. Why should people who had nothing to do with slavery pay taxes towards reparations?
No one living today is responsible for slavery. Could you imagine if the world got in the mode of paying for the evils of the past, it would be a free-for-all. Then there’s the fact that many African Americans migrated here as well so no one in their family tree was involved in the slave trade here in the U.S.
It’s truly ludicrous that some African Americans feel they should receive money because their ancestors were wronged so many years ago; my guess is they have no answers to the questions I mentioned above.
Shame on the leaders in the black community for tossing this idea around and making their community angry that they aren’t getting paid. There’s no doubt in my mind that when the layers are pulled back, people like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson weren’t truly in it for African Americans they were just in it for themselves and in the process hurting our country terribly through creating division.
