This is a special shoutout to social workers especially those in child services. The most dangerous calls for police officers are domestic disputes. People who work in DSS deal with volatile domestic issues daily. It's a dangerous job deciding if a child stays with his or her parent(s), or helping to decide custody battles. It's a job filled with mental anguish seeing the conditions some children deal with at home or in the system.
What really blows my mind is that so many of these people went to college to get a degree in something that pays so little. These graduates make a little more than half the starting salary of other graduates. They've chosen an unselfish path. Not unlike teachers, their impact at work affects all of us.
I couldn't do what they do as I don't have that kind of toughness or quite frankly, that kind of compassion; I'm so thankful that there are those who do.
