According to the report, now-public juror Brandon Mitchell, 31, is seen in a Facebook post published in August 2020 wearing a hat that says “Black Lives Matter” and a T-shirt that says “BLM” with the words, “Get Your Knee Off Our Necks,” a reference to the death of Floyd.
Potential jurors were specifically asked about their involvement in the BLM movement, had they ever attended protests, worn anti-police attire, etc., and this guy flat out lied. Why? Why did he want to get on the jury so badly? The answer is simple, to be an influencer on the jury.
Will Chauvin get a new trial since the jury pool was allegedly tainted? I don't know, he certainly should but laws are treated like a buffet line these days. I can definitely see the government not concerning themselves with Chauvin's civil rights and letting the mob rule instead. I'm not sure the outcome would end up any differently as far as his conviction, but that's not the point, his civil rights are the point. The process is the point.
BTW: I just found out that Chauvin's attorney has filed to have the verdicts overturned. I don't know how the court will respond but let me ask you how you'd feel if you found out a member of your jury was rooting for the prosecution? The court could come back and make a claim that it wouldn't have mattered, that Chauvin would've been convicted anyway, but that wouldn't be just. They don't have a clue how much influence this juror had on the rest of the jury. Maybe another jury would also find him guilty, but in my opinion, he deserves a fair trial.
