Why have any kind of an agreement if there aren't consequences beyond a slap on the wrists? Why support something just for show? It would have been so easy for Trump to sign the Accord so he wouldn't have to deal with the attacks, but he wasn't going to play the game. Also keep in mind they called it an "Accord," on purpose and not a "Treaty." They bank on most Americans not understanding it but the bottom line is that an Accord has absolutely no teeth. It's a piece of paper meant for political means, not answers to climate change issues. President Trump refused to play their game. If voters are mad, they shouldn't be mad at Trump for not signing it, they should be mad at the politicians and mainstream media who tried to pull off a fast one.
The U.S. has done a great job of managing environmental concerns like carbon emissions. We're not perfect because we still do a lot of manufacturing, but we're by far not a major problem compared to much of the world. We're way down the list of polluters while places like China, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, etc., not only put way more carbon emissions in the air than the U.S., but they are also some of the worst contributors to ocean pollution, especially plastics. Once again, the U.S. is way down the list when it comes to polluting our oceans. If you go to any of our beaches, you know this.
All anyone must do is Google the information I've shared and they'd easily find that research shows it to be true; the U.S. isn't a major cause of pollution in the world. So why haven't these activists done due diligence? Why do Democrats attack our country and Republicans as if we are a major environmental threat? Because politics trumps truth. The end justifies the means in their Party. Having a platform to scare people about provides political leverage.
There are problems with too much pollution in the world and the negative consequences that go with it, but we're not the ones mainly responsible for it. These activists need to fly to these problem countries and protest (a.k.a. riot). They should be proud of our country for what we're doing and how we're steadily improving our environmental standards while maintaining economic strength so people can continue to be blessed to live here. Power. Influence. Money. All of these at the expense of the truth. I don't want to live in a world where truth no longer matters and coincidentally, the private sector can't survive long without truth because customers leave, but politics is a different, and ugly, world.
