The Road Less Travelled (Two Minutes to Read)

2/17/2012

We know better but for some reason we don’t live our lives with the thought process that we only get one shot at this thing. I believe one of our biggest problems is that we lose our way and end up taking the path of least resistance along with most other people.

One of the reasons we get off course is that we don’t slow down long enough to review where we are and where we’re headed. When we fail to do this we end up going with the flow along with everyone else. If you find yourself on the same road as the average person, you’re on the wrong road. The average person takes the path of least resistance which means they get to the wrong place really fast.

From the moment we begin interacting with other people there’s pressure to be part of the crowd. Failure to do so means we become an outcast and people make fun of us for being different. This pull to be so-called “normal” is a major factor in people not achieving their dreams.

In order to make sure you’re not following the masses, you should figure out some of the things they do and don’t do them. For example, if most people don’t read the Wall Street Journal, then consider reading it. If most people eat out all the time, then consider only eating out once a week. If most people spend four hours each night gaming, surfing, and/or watching television, then only spend one hour disconnected from your family.

Another thing you could pay attention to is what television shows most people watch. For example if a lot of people watch shows like Entertainment Tonight then don’t watch them. There’re always exceptions but I’m sure you understand where I’m coming from. On the flip side if you know of people you’d like to immolate then find out what kinds of things they do and do them.

If you’re normal then you’ll more than likely end up with an average life. This only makes since as the two words are used interchangeably. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with choosing a normal life as long as you’re okay with it. But if you want more out of life than an average person, you can’t live your life like an average person.

There’s only way to be on the road less travelled and that’s to be different than other people no matter how uncomfortable it is at times. The beautiful part about this topic is that you have control over it. You certainly can’t do anything about where you are today because of choices you’ve made in your past but you can change your future starting now.
