Anyhow, I noticed that the crowd, instead of clapping, were doing jazz hands up in the air. Someone mentioned that the deaf do this at their conferences so they wanted to make this particular group feel more welcomed. The reason of course that they don't bother clapping is that no one would hear the sound.
The deaf community makes up around 8% of our total population. What this means is that if an event isn't specifically for the deaf community, it's highly unlikely anyone who is deaf, is even attending, or if they are, it would be a very small group of people.
But do you know what is the craziest thing about all of this? When they do the jazz hands so deaf people can feel included, guess what they're doing? They're discriminating against the blind who were able to hear the clapping before but with jazz hands won't have a clue what's going on. I've got to say it, these people are absolute idiots!
