Trade with China

10/1/2018

Democrats love to trash Trump regarding his handling of trade with other countries like China. Of course, no matter what he does, they attack him. First, China knocks off our technology again and again. They even set up Apple stores that weren't owned by Apple that sold knock-off phones.

Next, we have a huge advantage of buying more merchandise from them than they do from us. Basically, we are their number one customer which gives us a huge advantage. I'm going to break down the numbers to make them easier to work with to get a point across. Let's say your town sells one million dollars of products to China each year including one farmer in town who sells them soy beans. Now let's say your town buys five million dollars’ worth of products from China (this would lead to a four-million-dollar trade deficit). At the end of the year, your town would have four million dollars less to spend the next year and China's economy would grow by four million.

If this continues year after year, your town would need to start borrowing money to continue buying merchandise from China (like our Federal deficit), then eventually a depression would kick in. The ugly fact is, even though some people in town would get hurt during the short-term (like maybe the soybean farmer), your town would be better off not doing business with China. The town would end up being way better off by keeping the money here (growing economy), rather than there. You could buy more things from each other.

Therefore, Trump's doing what he's doing even though it will negatively impact some people on the short-term. China was one of the major reasons Obama increased our debt more than all other presidents combined. Better trade deals reduce our debt keeping programs like Medicare and Social Security more solvent. The bottom line is Democrats have it wrong again because their hatred of Trump is greater than their love of country.
