Even though he’s extremely wealthy, Beto O-Rourke gave only .3% of his income to charities. Bernie Sanders gave 3.4%. Kamala Harris donated no money while working in California before she was elected but gave a whopping 1.4% on her last tax return. Kirsten Gillibrand gave 1.75%. Amy Klobuchar gave 1.85%. I’ve got to hand it to her, Elizabeth Warren gave far more as a percentage (5.9%), of her income than her competing candidates. Side note, before being elected the Obama’s gave 5.7% to churches and charities, G.W. Bush and Laura gave around 16% (wow!), and the Clinton’s gave approximately 6.5% to charities before running for office. Neither the Clinton’s nor Obama’s were known for being generous with their own money.
The company I started with four friends of mine, had around 350 employees when I retired around nine years ago. We gave 10% of our income before taxes, to churches and charities. I know many of our employees who gave around 10% of their income to help others. In other words, as a privately held company in a capitalist economy, we were able to significantly help people in need. The company and many of our employees gave way more of their income to charities than what the Democratic candidates have been willing to give. The evidence is clear in their tax returns and now they’re tapdancing around trying to explain that they’ve helped in other ways.
I don’t mention our contributions to brag, but just to point out the hypocrisy of not only these Democratic candidates but all those in the Democratic Party who live by double-standards when it comes to helping others. They act like they’ve taken the moral high ground on their stances but it’s easy to do when you’re using other peoples’ money.
